Blandy‘s 10 Year Old Sercial

Sercial is representing one of the four main white grape varietys of Madeira island from which the dryest style of Madeira wine is made. Sercial is growing in two very extreme locations on the Madeira island. On the southern coast it grows on about 700 meters from the see level near the small village called Jardim da Serra. On the northern coast the grapes are groing right down by the sea in two main regions – Porto Moniz and Seixal. When the people try Sercial for the first time, they talk abouth the saltiness of the wine and that could eventually be associated to the wineyards been grown close to the sea.

The Blandy‘s 10 years Sercial itself is characterized by a very light amber colour. As Sercial is the dryest style of Madeira wine, it has quite low  level of residual sugar, between 47 and 48 grams per litre. The great thing about Sercial is its natural acidity. The total acidity level is 7 grams per liter of this particular10 years old Blandy‘s wine.

You serve this wine slightly chilled at about 14 degrees Celsius. In terms of food pairing to this wine – It is very dynamic wine food to pair with. It is perfect with sushi, different types of snackes,  great with austers. When you want to finish a meal with Sercial, it goes very well with aged cheeses, as for example cheddar. Blandy‘s 10 years Sercial is a lovely food pairing wine.
